Design and Technology
At St John's, we aim to inspire our pupils to exercise their creativity and imagination through designing, making, evaluating and exploring technical knowledge by providing a high-quality Design and Technology education. By providing children with opportunities to solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts we hope to motivate them to use these life skills within their future and our ever changing world.
The DT curriculum at St John's is based on The DT Associations 'Projects on a Page' scheme of work and adapted to meet the needs of our pupils and our unique context. The scheme is based on universal principles of effective teaching and learning in D&T and allows teachers to use their creativity, whilst ensuring the quality, integrity and rigour of children’s learning.
The Design & Technology curriculum at St. John's is planned around the 5 key strands:
- Electrical systems
- Food and Nutrition
- Mechanisms
- Structures
- Textiles
