Pupil Leadership
Pupil leadership plays an important role in our school life, giving children a voice and the opportunity to make a positive difference.
There is a representative form Year 5 and Year 6 for each area:
Education
Environment and Safety
Health and Wellbeing
Media and Culture
Rights and Justice
Sports
Vision and Values
Our pupil leaders help to share ideas from their peers, support school initiatives, and work alongside staff to improve our school community. Through meetings, projects, and events, they develop confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills while helping to shape school life for everyone.
The Pupil Advisory Board is a Trust level leadership structure that gives pupils first hand experiences to lead strategically for an organisation beyond their own school. This also gives children the opportunity to develop their leadership practice on a wider scale across all schools in Forward as One. For pupils to be appointed to the Pupil Advisory Board, they must have completed or be completing the TPQL, be in Year 5 or 6, and have held a leadership position in their school. Pupils hold their post for two years to enable succession planning, a balance of experience and allow for change and continuity. Two pupils are elected from each school represent each department. Pupils complete an application form in September that outlines their suitability for the role, which is reviewed by school leaders.
The Pupil Advisory Board is divided into six ‘departments’, which mirror the departments found in UK government. This makes strong links to the fundamental British values, particularly ‘rule of law’. The department overview, as well as a summary of each department’s responsibility.
Departments will meet once per term. Across each term, all departments meet at least once, and the cycle continues throughout the year. At the start of the academic year, all departments meet to launch the Pupil Advisory Board and meet at the end of the year to reflect on their success and impact.
The departments have been intentionally placed to address certain points of teaching and learning across the year. For example, the Department for Vision, Values and Ethos meets at the start of the year as part of setting the high expectations and ready to learn approach within Forward as One schools.
